Makeup Mayfest Day 6

Have I admitted yet that I unhealthy obsession with drugstore lippies.

Step 1: Admitting I have a problem.

Step 2: Stop buying lip products

hmmmm, I will think about it.

I picked up these new Maybelline Whispers at Ulta this week and I need to play
with them more, but I've been kind of disappointed with them despite all the hype.

Maybelline describes the newly released lip whisper as:
"Sexy, soft see through color with no heavy waxes or oils. Just a kiss of shine."

Top color is Petal Rebel (a blue toned bright baby pink)
Bottom color is Lust for Blush ( a pinkish mauve)

Left: Petal Rebel
Right: Lust for Blush

Swatch left: Petal Rebel
Swatch right: Lust for blush

This are definitely what they claim to be... a very sheer wash of color. I chose
to pick up pink shades because I feel that is the color I lack the most of and wanted
something soft and sheer for when I want a dark smoky eye.

I have worn these to work and with my current tan less skin I felt
pretty washed out. I like my lipstick and I like my color. I think I will appreciate using
these more at night with heavier bronzer and eye makeup and playing my lips down.

They do have a great texture as they are a gel formula. Very lightweight and smooth on the lips.

If you are into sheer lippies or glosses I think you will love these. They also
have some brighter colors that will probably have more pigmentation if you are looking
for something that pops a little more.

Stay tuned for more drugstore lippie posts.
They seem to be my thang right now.

Have you tried Maybelline Whispers?

Makeup Mayfest Day 4

I thought I would share my current foundation and concealer routine
that I've been liking.

I had heard great review, after great review, after great review with the
Revlon 24 hour Colorstay Foundation. I had opened it up about a year ago at a
drugstore and thought the consistency looked way too runny and watery for me.

They have 2 different formulas. One for combination/oily and another for
dry/combination. I have a bottle of each and actually enjoy both of them for
different reasons based on what's going on with my skin.

Revlon describes this foundation as a lightweight formula with longwearing
coverage that doesn't cake, fade, or rub off. A flawless look all day long.

Despite my skepticism for how it would work for me I decided to cave
and try it out this year. I kept hearing girl after girl talk about the best way to apply and use
this foundation was with a beauty blender. At first I didn't use it this way... I was stubborn
and tried it with my fingers or a brush and kept being disappointed and wondering what all
the fuss was about UNTIL I pulled out my blender.

Wow. What a difference and how right everyone was. The finish and look of this
foundation is so pretty when applied with a damp beauty blender.

I just take the sponge and run it under cold or warm water and then squeeze all the
excess water out with my hands and then take a towel and ring it out once more. After
that I pour the foundation onto the sponge and then dab it onto my face.

Rather than rubbing or trying to blend it in fast it works best if you just stipple
the product on and take your time.

I have the combination/oily formulation and what I like about this is that it
doesn't dry my skin out or look too fake. I feel that certain brands that are designed
for oily skin or claim to give you a matte finish just look too drying.

This doesn't. It controls oil and shine, but with the damp beauty blender gives
a very natural and pretty finish and glow to the skin.

Next step after getting my foundation on is applying my Maybelline Dream Lumi
concealer under my eyes. This is a brightening and highlighting concealer. If you don't
have a ton of darkness or bags under your eyes this baby is GREAT. I love it for making my eyes
look more awake and full. It is a great drugstore product for highlighting and enhancing
dark areas that need some light and brightness.

This has a little brush at the end that makes it easy for applying the product right up under
your eyes. I have the color Radiant and it's a gorgeous color with some light pink tones
in it. My advice with this concealer is go lighter than you normally would. The purpose of
this is to really highlight that area so the lighter colors looks best.

Product of the Day

I finsished my Maybelline Clean Express eye makeup remover
this morning and thought what better time than to do a quick review.

Maybelline released this new remover this year. I am always using these removers
and most of them work about the same. (although my favorite is still by Neutrogena)

Clean Express is a waterproof mascara remover and claims to be
 ultra gentle and oil free.

Like I said there is not going to be an indepth review on this product. Most eye
make up removers do the same thing so there is not a ton of room for explanation
and demonstration.

But, I will say I did really enjoy using this product. It works very effectively in
removing all your mascara, shadows, and liner. It doesn't burn and does have a cooling
calming effect on the eyes.

This retails at drugstores for around $5. I would most definitely repurchase this again.
However, I am planning on buying the Neutrogena brand next just for comparison
to see which one does the job better.

What's your favorite eye make up remover?!

Spring Make-up

Every season brings the opportunity to transform your make-up into a new
look. There are easy, subtle, and inexpensive ways to give yourself a fresh look
without breaking the bank.

Here are my favorite 5 ways to get my spring on:

1. Blush:
Pick a brighter pink or coral blush
My picks: Maybelline bouncy in Hot Tamale and Milani baked blush in Corallina

2. Highlighter:
Switch to a cream product that will give your face a more dewy finish
My pick: Jemma Kidd All Over Radiance Cream in Rose Gold

3. Eyeshadow:
Pick neutral colors that give the appearance you aren't wearing much.
My pick: Clinique lid smoothie in Gingerly

4. Eyeliner:
Ditch your brown or black and pick a color that will give your eyes a pop of brightness.
Try a navy or even more on trend this season green.
My picks: Merle Norman Galaxy (navy) and Urban Decay Junkie (bright emerald green)

5. Lips:
Go with a bright pink or coral. Adding a good pop of color to your lips when your eyes
are nude always works and looks so classy!
My pick: Cover Girl Jumbo Gloss balm in #235 Coral Twist

These are my favorite ways to transition into spring.
What are yours?!?!

Wednesday Wishes

I don't know about you guys, but I'm over winter. After Christmas and New Year's
I am so ready for spring/summer and the beach!

I'm feeling bright colors, tan skin, and warm weather.

So, with that said I have been taking notice of all the new spring lippies that are
coming out! I have a few that are on my wish list that I can't wait to get my hands on once
I am ready to actually wear them!

I will start with the new Clinique chubby stick intense. You may have tried the original
chubby stick that was a moisturizing color balm. I never personally bought one of these, but
did swatch them at the store. My impression was that they were not extremely pigmented and
would give a more natural look. So, I wasn't that impressed and didn't want to spend the $16
on a glorified lip balm.

BUT, now Clinique has recently released the Chubby Stick Intense moisturizing color
balm and these are a different story! I've done my research and people are loving these things.
They are highly pigmented with color and still give off the moisture you would want
with a balm. : ) yay!

The two colors that I want for spring are the Plushest Punch (raspberry pink) and the color
I am most excited about is Heftiest Hibiscus (bright coral). How pretty would that coral
be with a nude eye, some black liner, a pop of orange/coral blush and bam that bright bold
lip! I get so excited thinking about make up looks. DORK! ha.

Another lippie that I have heard great things about is in the new Maybelline Vivid Collection.
Shocking Coral is the shade that has caught my attention. I'm feeling the corals and oranges if you
can't tell for this spring/summer. Plus, I feel like brunettes with a good tan can really wear
that color well and it pops against really dark hair.

I grabbed these pictures of the internet since I don't personally own these yet.
Here is what the packaging looks like if you are interested in finding these are your local
store.

Here are four gorgeous bright pinks/corals.
Shocking coral is the 3rd from the left! It seems to be a pinky/coral that is brighter in
person than it comes off on this picture. I think if you wanted to tone it down a bit you
could add some lip balm to sheer it out.

I'm so excited for bright fun lips this spring!!! What are your favorite spring
lip colors to wear?!

Product of the Day- Concealer

Today's product of the day and review is brought to you by
Revlon and Maybelline.

I have been using 2 different concealers for different reasons, but they both have been
a favorite in my routine during these winter months.

On the left I have Revlon Photoready Concealer in the shade light/medium.
This is my favorite concealer of the moment for concealing blemishes, spots, or even
under the eyes. It's a thicker formula, but yet very creamy and blendable. I didn't use this
as much during the summer, but it's been perfect for me during the winter months as I have
felt my skin needs extra coverage in areas.

I have found myself applying a thinner layer of foundation all over my face and
then using this to really go over areas that are in need of some tlc for a more flawless finish.

Love this concealer and would definitely repurchase at my drugstore when I run out.

The concealer on the right is Maybelline Dream Lumi touch Highlighting concealer
in the shade beige (might need a lighter shade).
I have found this to be a great concealer for brightening up your under eye area. I don't have
many dark circles or bags under my eyes, but I still find it helpful for making my eyes
look more awake, youthful, and brightened. I had to play around with this a little to find the best
application is patting with your finger. I used brushes and sponges and wasn't getting the effect
I wanted, but after application I just use my middle finger to lightly dab the product into
my skin and you can see the difference a lot more effectively.

I have friends that don't use concealer and it's not always needed. You can always
double up on foundation if you need extra coverage, but for me during these colder
months I find it more needed and it gives me a more polished look when I want it!

These both have gotten great reviews in the beauty world for different reasons.
What is your favorite concealer?!

Maybelline Color Tattoo- Review + Swatches

Maybelline released a product called, Color Tattoo last year and the beauty world went
a little crazy about this product in a little jar.

So, what is it you ask? It's a 24 hour cream shadow base or primer that has a color. It can
be worn alone if you want a natural or easy look, but most would choose to use as a primer before
placing your eyeshadow to help it have lasting power.

Maybelline had a heck of a buzzed about 2012 Fall line and with that came new limited edition
colors. So, if you interested in the new shades you better get your hands on them fast because they
won't be around for long.

Four new shades were released: Barely Beige (creamy beige with shimmery finish)
Gold Shimmer (bronzy brownish gold) Rich Mahogany (dark coffee brown with red shimmer)
and Mossy Green (olive green with gold shimmer)

As of right now I just own one of these lovely shades, Barely Beige. It seemed
the most practical to me because this neutral can be worn under basically
any shade and serve as a great primer.

It comes in a little jar. Love the packaging. If you are a MAC person you will
know these products are compared to their paint pots.

Look how creamy and beautiful that color is. These are best applied
by using a finger and blending onto lid.

Swatch in natural lighting.

Swatch with flash.

Thoughts on Maybelline color tattoos?
Have you seen all four colors in person... whatcha think?

Maybelline Eyestudio Quad- Review + Swatches

I've very excited about this blog post and review because I have been on
somewhat of a hunt to track down this quad.

Maybelline released their Fall 2012 line and there have been several products that created
quiet a buzz in the beauty world. I tend to get very wrapped up in products that get a lot
of buzz and are highly sought after. I had to visit 3 different drug stores in my city before
I could even get my hands on one of these quads... so it has to be good, right?!

So, "Olive Martini" is the quad that everyone is talking about and trying to get
their hands on.

As you can see it is a very unique palette with colors most may not have in their
shadow collection. You get a icy beige with shimmer, a cool mint green, what appears
to be a rich emerald green, and a copper cinnamon red brown.

The most unique shade in this palette is by far the third. In the palette as you can tell it appears
to be a deep green. However, when swatched it could not be more different. It is frosty green that
is actually a duochrome shade that turns out to be a green with brown and redish tint. I'm probably
not doing a great job at explaining this, but there is a lot more going on in that shade that what meets
the eye.

Here are all four swatches in natural lighting.

And here again with a flash. Obviously, the lightest shade is at the bottom and I went up to the
darkest near my wrist. This photo allows you to see how that third shade from the bottom
(the duochrome shade) really does have a unique color. You can see the brown background, but
the green highlights show through to give such a different color.

I have been loving the look this quad gives and hope to post a FOTD with it this week.
Have you tried any Fall 2012 products?

Maybelline Blush Review

I bought the new Dream Bouncy blushes by Maybelline recently and I have to admit
these are not my fave!

I thought the idea of these blushes seemed really cool. They have a bouncy memory
foam kind of texture, but the quality of these products are not impressive to me at all.
They go on VERY sheer and don't give much color at all. Yes, they can be build-able,
but who really wants to continue to build more and more blush when there are better
products that you can get the look you want in one swipe.

I bought two shades.
Left ( Hot Tamale)
Right (Coffee Cake)

Here you can see how these blushes respond to me placing my finger into the product.
Kind of makes for a fun texture. Maybelline claims that these blushes have a powder
texture yet melts on the face like a cream. They also claim for this blush to be a
natural sheer wash of color. I would agree with their claims... it is a very natural
finish and if you are not into bright blushes or want a lot of color on your face then
you may like these.

I am an advocate of cream blush in the summer. I like a good dewy effect on the cheeks to
give you that healthy summer look. However, I think there are better cream cheek
products out there. If you are willing to splurge a little I like Urban Decay glide on cheek
tint or MAC Cremeblend blushes.

Hope you have a "Cheeky" Day!
